Description

A luxurious French-inspired creamy fruit salad featuring fresh seasonal fruits coated in a velvety vanilla whipped cream dressing. This elegant yet simple dessert takes just 15 minutes to prepare and is perfect for brunches, dinner parties, or any time you want a light and refreshing treat. The combination of strawberries, kiwis, grapes, oranges, and tropical fruits creates a colorful masterpiece that’s as beautiful as it is delicious.

Ingredients

Fruit Base:

  • 2 cups strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 2 medium bananas, sliced into ½-inch rounds
  • 1 cup red grapes, halved
  • 1 cup green grapes, halved
  • 2 kiwis, peeled and diced
  • 1 large orange, peeled and segmented
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple chunks
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 apple (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), cored and diced

Creamy Dressing:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
  • ½ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Zest of half a lemon (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Optional Garnishes:

  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Shredded coconut, toasted
  • Sliced almonds, toasted
  • Pomegranate arils

Instructions

  • Prepare the Fruits: Wash all fruits thoroughly and pat dry. Hull and halve strawberries, slice bananas, halve grapes, dice kiwis into bite-sized pieces, segment the orange (removing membrane), cut pineapple into chunks, and dice the apple. Place all prepared fruit in a large mixing bowl.
  • Make the Creamy Dressing: In a medium bowl, combine cold heavy whipping cream, sour cream (or Greek yogurt), and powdered sugar. Using an electric mixer or whisk, beat on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until soft peaks form.
  • Add Flavor Enhancers: Gently fold in vanilla extract, fresh lemon juice, lemon zest (if using), and a pinch of salt into the whipped cream mixture using a spatula.
  • Combine Fruit and Cream: Pour the cream mixture over the prepared fruit. Using a large rubber spatula, gently fold the cream into the fruit with a delicate touch, using a sweeping motion from bottom to top. Continue until all fruit is evenly coated (about 1-2 minutes).

  • Chill and Serve: Transfer to a serving bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld. Garnish with fresh mint leaves, toasted coconut, or sliced almonds just before serving.

Notes

  • Fruit Substitutions: Feel free to swap fruits based on seasonality. Try peaches, nectarines, cherries in summer, or pears and persimmons in fall/winter. Avoid watery fruits like watermelon.
  • Lighter Version: Replace half the heavy cream with additional Greek yogurt for fewer calories and more protein.
  • Dairy-Free Option: Use coconut cream and dairy-free yogurt alternative.
  • Prevent Browning: Toss apples and bananas in extra lemon juice if preparing ahead.
  • Make-Ahead: Prepare fruit and cream separately, store covered in refrigerator, and combine 30 minutes before serving for best results.
  • Storage: Best enjoyed fresh. Store in airtight container for up to 24 hours in refrigerator. Not recommended for freezing.
